Not Quite The Big One

fifteen snow inches
only disappointing when
could've been three feet

If you want two or three feet of snow by Wednesday, you're going to have to go to New Hampshire to ski.

Looks like MRG and Sugarbush will get more like 6-10 out of this storm (not that we're complaining). Okay, we're complaining.

It'll be cold, and really windy.  The good news is: no melting, and lots of good windblown stashes in the woods.

Possibility of a storm bringing several inches Thursday night into Friday.  So, if we're lucky, the cold and wind will keep the crowds away, and the rest of us will be enjoying 12-15 in the woods on Friday afternoon.

This is the Big One Elizabeth!

If you remember the show associated with that quote, chances are good your knees won't be able to handle what Josh Fox is predicting for Tuesday, January 27th.

this could be the one
Nor'easter coming Tuesday
maybe not no jinxing

On January 22nd, The Single Chair Weather Blog reported that neither storm (one that dropped six inches on Saturday in Western Mass and another coming in early in the week of Jan. 26th) would hit Vermont.

He got the first one right - Sugarbush reported 1-2 inches Saturday night.

But on Jan. 22nd, the report was that the Tuesday storm would get "squashed."

Then came Saturday's post :

  • Nor'easter moving into Vermont early Tuesday
  • Bringing wind, extreme cold & treacherous roads
  • 10-20 inches of snow: but could be less than 10, could be more than 20.
Stay Tuned.

If you're coming from CT, NH, MA or RI, get on the road early - this is a big fat storm and it'll be hard to get to VT if you leave too late.

Welcome to the Single Chair Summary

Welcome Sugarbush & Mad River Glen skiers (okay, and riders)

Every time Josh Fox posts a new weather report for Mad River Glen on The Single Chair Weather Blog (and we know you just refreshed your link hoping for a new post), we'll post a summary here.

For example, his post for Tuesday, January 20, 2015, can be found at http://www.madriverglenweather.blogspot.com/2015/01/watching-two-more-potential-storms-over.html.  Here's our summary:

Hard to predict now
But no snow likely this week
Next Tuesday snow day?

To summarize the rest of the 1/20/15 post:

  • No big risk of a thaw in early February
  • Looks like some light snow next week, or a bigger hit Tuesday if we're lucky
  • Based on the Polar jet, check out fares to the Rockies
  • Chance of 1-2 bigger storms in early February
And our own take on the skiing this week?  You shoulda been here Monday.
